The Milwaukee School Board failed to pass a pay raise for those earning less than $80,000 annual salary and it also rejected an amendment to create a department for prominence of bilingualism and multicultural.

Milwaukee, WI – On Thursday, the Milwaukee Public School Board (MPS) voted to approve a Department of Black and Latino males, according to the Board meeting. The MPS Board failed to act on an amendment by Board Member Tony Baez to create a Department that would create a positive high visibility narrative for prominence of bilingualism and multicultural, which Baez also addressed the lack of Latinos in the leadership structure when the Board proposed the reorganization of the Central Services budget. The Board did approved a substitute amendment to Baez’ budget proposal that will require a “Board Work Session” in September. Student parents, community members, teachers and other educators during the summer months will have an opportunity in meetings to provide input and address Baez’ concerns of the issue raised at the Board meeting.
The Milwaukee School Board also failed to pass a pay raise for those earning less than $80,000 annual salary, which Education Assistants and Paraprofessionals who make around $18,000 annually, despite having an Associate Degree would not get a pay raise, thus continue to earn a poverty wage.
